I grew up in rural Hertfordshire , England and completed a BA in textiles/fashion at Goldsmith’s College, London University. Shortly after, I moved to New York and studied intaglio printmaking at the Art Students League. In my early career I joined Sculpture Basis creating life-sized costumed figures for history and science museums.

An opportunity opened at the Jim Henson Company where I have happily worked since 1993. I was delighted to receive three daytime Emmy Awards for my achievements building puppets and costumes for TV and film.

Birds of Bodhi engages my continued interest in the natural world of birds, recognizing an inherent spirit and costume inspiration. My paper collage bird portraits aspire to be vibrant engaging characters, dressed in colorful attire, they are presented in a clear environment, untethered by earthly constraints.

There is much that catches my eye as I draw inspiration and appreciation from the work of James Audubon, JJ Granville, Leon Bakst , Indian miniature paintings, Brian Froud for his vision and personal expression of the Fairie Realm, Tim Laman and Edwin Scholes ‘Birds of Paradise’ and Joel Sartore’s ‘Birds of the PhotoArk’. Joel’s stunning, intimate photo portraits, shown in uninterrupted open space, not only reveal distinct personalities but remind us that their survival is linked to our awareness and call to action.
